Fellow members,

As donor relations professionals, we spend our days finding unique ways to express gratitude to our donors. We look for ways to consistently raise the bar to surprise and delight those generous individuals who support our organizations. We are constantly being asked to innovate and are often under tight deadlines with high expectations. In many cases, we are the unsung heroes, acting like the Wizard of Oz, managing things behind the scenes. (Pay no attention to that person behind the curtain!)

What Do I Mean When I Say "Acknowledgment"?

An acknowledgment letter to a donor. Acknowledging weaknesses. A land acknowledgment. Donor relations professionals use this word daily, but what are its historical and contemporary nuances? Since acknowledgment is integral to our work, I’m interested in how its different meanings and contexts might inform our thoughts on acknowledging donors and the communities our organizations serve.

Assistant Director of Donor Engagement

ADRP member for 3 years

What do you like most about being a member of the ADRP?

ADRP has been an excellent resource for learning the ins and outs of donor relations. For the first couple of years, I worked on my own to navigate stewardship, recognition, and events the way they had always been done. Becoming a member of ADRP was a game-changer. It offered webinars and trusted resources and linked me to other industry professionals that helped guide, direct, and educate me through their own experiences to make my way clearer at Lenoir-Rhyne (LR)...

My ADRP Tips & Tricks:

My ADRP is our newest members-only communication platform that offers discussion posts, social connection, private messaging, learning resources, and more! Look for additional My ADRP Tips (useful info) & Tricks (shortcuts and fun stuff!) in future Hub issues.

Tip: Say Something & Everywhere!

When we first launched My ADRP, we created several interest communities, like higher education, healthcare, events, and much more!

We’ve found, though, that most of our engagement is taking place in the General Community. So if you have a question or item for discussion, post in the General Community too!

We can all learn something from each other, even when we work in very different organizations. And if you read a question and think, well, that’s not my organization type...think outside the box about what you might contribute to the conversation. Beneficiaries of donor support may look different across our organizations, but we all focus on bringing their messages to our donors. Ask yourself, what can I learn, or how can I add to the discussion?

Trick: The "Following" Toggle

Most of you probably set your digest to once a day, which provides an email summary of the previous day’s postings. But what if you want real-time feedback on your post? Just toggle the little blue button “Following” at the top of the post. You’ll get emailed replies to the discussion as received. Easy peasy!
