In Service: The Column of the ADRP President
Angela Altamore Associate Vice President, Stewardship and Donor Engagement, Kansas State University Foundation
Hi there!
Happy Hours. That is what came to mind when I started reflecting on the meaning of ADRP in my life.
Early in my career, I relied on ADRP as a resource to help me figure out how to tackle my first DR job: scholarship stewardship. I spent hours watching webinars, reading replies to the listserv, and attending conference sessions. When I was promoted to lead a full team of DR professionals, my ADRP focus shifted to seeking resources to help me strategize on how to build a team to suit the needs of my organization.

Creating a Community for Compliance
Sarah Thomas Director of Donor Services NC State University
I started in this industry about seven years ago and was always hungry for information. I was fortunate to have a fantastic mentor, Lynne Becker. She urged me to attend conferences and webinars, set up calls with other universities, read all the IRS regulations and tax laws tied to charitable giving, and read listservs...
...Over the past ten years, compliance has started to expand and grow, but lacked a place for collaboration.

Are there any particular stories, insights, etc., from your experiences in donor relations and stewardship that you would like to share with our colleagues?
Network! I work with a small group of Ohio college donor relations offices that has been meeting in the summers for six years now. I jokingly refer to it as “Kiss and Cry” or “Cheers and Jeers.” We share accomplishments, what went well, what didn't work and why. It is a low cost way to promote professional development. We used to rotate meetings on our campuses. Now, with COVID, we meet online—like everyone else.
