Breakout Session 1C: Principles of Effective Leadership at Every Level

Session Description
As we navigate the global pandemic and adapt to a changing work environment, strong leadership has never been more important. Practicing certain leadership principles can position you for success in any environment whether you find yourself managing up, overseeing a cross-functional team or supervising direct reports remotely. In this session, an associate VP, senior director and assistant director share several leadership principles proven to be effective in each of their roles. This session will empower you to practice effective leadership and take ownership of your unique role in the organization. Audience participation is highly encouraged. In addition to the presentation outline, you will receive a list of books, podcasts and other leadership resources to help support your personal leadership growth.

Abby Fox Director of Stewardship and Donor Communications Oklahoma State University Foundation
Abby began her development career in 2008 at OSU. She is responsible for university-wide stewardship reporting strategies, acknowledgment standards and targeted impact communication. Her focus is to build relationships and manage projects in a way that improves efficiencies, fosters creativity and enables her team to exceed donor expectations. Her experience includes marketing and communications, student philanthropy and event planning. Abby earned a B.A. in Journalism and Broadcasting from OSU.

Rebekah Spaulding Assistant Director of Stewardship Oklahoma State University Foundation
Rebekah develops and implements university-wide acknowledgment procedures and is responsible for project managing the annual endowment report process. She also oversees compliance for the Gift Acceptance Committee and has enjoyed learning innovative ways to strengthen donor confidence and serve their passions and the University alike. Prior to joining the donor relations team in 2017, she was an investment analyst for the OSU Foundation Investment Office. Rebekah holds a B.A. in history and an M.B.A. from Oklahoma State University, and a M.A. in history from George Mason University.

Michal Shaw Assistant Vice President of Donor Relations and Director of Women for OSU Oklahoma State University Foundation
Serving for more than 16 years in higher education fundraising, Michal has experience inresearch, prospect management, scholarship administration, gift administration, compliance, and as she oversees in her current role, stewardship, donor relations and special events. Other responsibilities include overseeing of OSU's women’s philanthropy program. Michal currently serves on the Board of Directors for ADRP and is a popular presenter for CASE, ADRP, Academic Impressions and Big 12 Development Conferences. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in geography from OSU.

Katy Galli-Kreps Senior Director, Donor Recognition University of California, Berkeley
Katy Galli-Kreps is the Senior Director of Donor Recognition within University Development and Alumni Relations at the University of California, Berkeley. She developed and leads the talented team responsible for donor recognition programs for annual, loyal, and lifelong giving; acknowledgement programs including those for the Chancellor and UDAR Vice Chancellor, and unit-based activity; stewardship reporting; and facilitating philanthropic namings. Katy has presented at several ADRP International Conferences, was Conference Chair for the 2010 Conference in San Francisco, and this year co-Chairs the conference Content Committee.
