Session Description

Are you committed to ensuring underrepresented staff and faculty feel a sense of belonging? This session will provide an overview of inclusive leadership practices and frameworks as well as key strategies for creating inclusive workplace environments. We will review key concepts in inclusion, diversity, belonging and equity (IDBE), strategies for inclusive leadership and how this leads to staff feeling valued and being more productive, as well as how to be an ally for staff who might identify differently than you. Participants will also be able to reflect on their own leadership practices and consider how they can use inclusive leadership to create a sense of belonging in the work setting.

Learning Objectives

  1. Inclusive leadership tools to leverage diverse thinking, increased idea formation, stronger decision-making, and provide equitable resources.
  2. Examine the role of inclusive leadership in achieving Inclusion, Diversity, Belonging, and Equity within the work environment.
  3. Identify strategies for creating inclusive environments from other session participants and group discussions.
  4. Understand the role as workplace leaders in mitigating microaggressions and other exclusionary behaviors.

About the Speaker

Monroe France
Associate Vice President for Global Engagement & Inclusive Leadership
New York University

Monroe is responsible for enhancing inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging (IDBE) opportunities and resources for graduate students, postdocs, researchers, and faculty, as well as the staff and administrators across all of NYU campuses and global academic centers. Monroe is an adjunct professor for the NYU Silver School of Social Work and NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Communication. He is the founder and faculty for NYU's annual Roundtable on Diversity & Equity. He serves on the Diversity Abroad Access, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (AIDE) Road Map Global Work Group and the EVERI Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Board.Monroe has more than 20 years of experience as an educator, professional trainer, consultant, strategist, and keynote presenter. He has taught courses as well as delivered lectures and keynote addresses on social justice and human rights in the US and in many other countries including the UAE, Shanghai, South Africa, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Australia, England, Germany, and Czech Republic.

About the Moderator

Debbie Meyers
Assistant Vice President for Advancement Operations
Chautauqua Institution

Debbie Meyers has worked in advancement for more than 30 years, much of that time in higher education. Now, in her new most recent role at the Chautauqua Institution, she heads advancement operations. In addition to creating or enhancing donor relations and stewardship programs at the University of Maryland, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Florida, she has built communications and development programs for a Catholic high school, an art museum and a health center development office.
An ADRP founding board member, she chaired the international conference and has presented at every ADRP international conference. Debbie has a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in journalism, thanks to her mother who corrected her grammar from her first spoken word. She married her high school drum major, and they have four grown children and two bad dogs.
