Vote Now!President-Elect: Michal ShawAssistant Vice President of Donor Relations, Oklahoma State University Foundation "As a member of ADRP’s Board of Directors, I have developed a great appreciation and better understanding of the important role of President-Elect, and much of what is expected during the consecutive two-year term. With 14+ years of experience in donor relations and non-profit fundraising, and as leader of multiple teams at my institution, I believe I am well qualified to fulfill this role. In addition to my professional experience, I am a futuristic thinker and excel in strategic planning and team development. I would love the opportunity to build upon the already strong partnerships ADRP has with its staff, members and volunteers, and to explore other partnerships for the benefit of ADRP. Past and current ADRP leadership have done a phenomenal job of making ADRP not only sustainable, but a growing and thriving organization. I would like to do what I can to see that this continues and that, as a leadership team, we continue to look for ways to bring new energy and ideas to ADRP. I’ve given the role of President-Elect A LOT of thought as I wanted to be sure I had the time and energy the position requires and deserves. After much consideration, I believe the timing is right and would sincerely appreciate the opportunity to serve in this capacity. ADRP has had a significant impact on my professional career and journey in donor relations, and I would treasure the opportunity to give back in this way. Serving as the ADRP President-Elect is a position I would take seriously and be fully committed to during my entire presidential tenure." Secretary/Treasurer: Angela AltamoreSenior Director, Stewardship and Donor Engagement, Kansas State University Foundation "When I received the Sheryl Blair scholarship back in 2013, I never dreamed I would be running a donor relations shop of my own one day, much less sitting on the ADRP board. In my board nomination statement a year ago, I spoke about the transition I made from running a donor relations shop at a small private college to running a team at a large public university and the fact I owed a great deal of my success to ADRP. I am honored to represent an organization that can have such a positive impact on the lives of its members. We all bring our unique experiences to the ADRP family and owe it to the future of our industry to give back. I would be honored to represent my peers as the next Secretary/Treasurer of the Association of Donor Relations Professionals. Working with President-Elect Jen McGrath, my fellow directors and the SBI counterparts would allow me the chance to help propel ADRP forward and build on the work of so many who have gone before me. Thank you for your consideration." Director: Scott EichingerDirector of Donor Relations & Stewardship, National Park Foundation "I learned about ADRP at a point when I was having some serious conversations with myself about my career path. A colleague introduced the Association, and it opened the doors, and shed light a new phase of my career, showing me an entire industry and network of professionals dedicated to inspiring donors and connecting those donors in deep, meaningful ways to their philanthropy. If I were selected to serve on the Board of Directors, I would bring 18-years of donor relations experience from the performing arts, higher education, and environmental sectors to the role. I would be an enthusiastic ambassador for our association and the nonprofit fundraising industry. Being on the board would give me additional opportunities to mentor both early and mid-career colleagues and to network with peers in our field; sharing ideas and solving new challenges. I feel that our field is experiencing a period of tremendous growth, and I would be honored to serve on the Board of Directors at this exciting time." Director: Mark LanumDirector of Donor Relations, University of Washington "As a Donor Relations professional, it’s my desire to see the profession continue its emergence from “back office operation” to a core discipline of philanthropy. ADRP is well-positioned to lead this change and I have valued (and still do) the opportunity it has afforded me to play a small role in the transformation of our profession to date. Board Director is a unique role, requiring both a global mindset and strategic focus. As one who readily draws connections between ideas and objectives, between people and purposes, and between values and outcomes, I naturally do much of what is expected of board members. In fact, it was being an ADRP Board member that led me to discover this about myself. ADRP nurtured me, drew upon my strengths and skills, and developed me in ways nothing else has. To me, it seems not only imperative to “give back” to ADRP in this manner, but also appropriate as such roles are a fit for me. Lastly, Board service is not solely about expertise, ideas and strategies. I believe Board service is most effective when it’s rooted in strong relationships. The relationships I have developed within ADRP and the Board are some of my most valuable and cherished of my career. It’s because of them and through them that I am able to serve ADRP well as a Board Director. ADRP has proved its worth and value to me, I trust that my previous service has demonstrated my value to ADRP." Director: Cheryl LintnerDirector of Donor Relations, Meridian Health Foundation "While I have served as a speaker and volunteer for international conferences, my primary involvement with ADRP has been through the NYC regional conference. As co-chair for two years and committee member since 2015, I have had the opportunity to influence professional content and direction on a local level, which has been very rewarding, and I now seek that on a broader scale. Volunteering has also allowed me to interact closely with many current and former board members, whose passion and commitment I share, and I believe that I too can offer valuable contributions in that role. I bring to the table a number of unique attributes. My experience in donor relations is diverse: I have worked in higher education and health care, in large and small shops, and in centralized and decentralized settings. I have joined well-established stewardship programs and launched first-time programs. I understand the benefits and challenges of these varied environments because I have experienced them first-hand. While I am creative, I am most definitely left-brained. I love analytics and data, and I have had success using robust metrics to demonstrate the value of stewardship. As a profession, we have yet to create shared measurements of success. The board has an opportunity to lead that conversation and help all of us to better articulate the important role we play, and I can add significant value to that discussion. I also have an intuitive understanding of and love for technology. Whether new software, digital equipment, e-communications, social media, or the-newest-tech-gadget, I am always looking for creative ways to incorporate technology into donor relations. In my own work, I have used technology to increase efficiency and overcome limited resources, and also to “surprise and delight” donors. New technology is always on the horizon, offering boundless potential, and I am very passionate about integrating it wherever I can. Before development, I worked in academia, where one doesn’t just “do” something – they also question why it works. Recently, our colleagues have begun to question why stewardship works – exploring the psychology and science behind gratitude and seeking to understand why what we do influences donors. Our intellectual curiosity is on fire right now. There are more scholarly presentations at conferences. We have a professional journal. This is incredibly exciting, and I am eager to apply my academic background to help us grow in this direction. Perhaps most importantly, I believe what I do makes a difference. I get to thank people. I make them feel good. And in the process, I create a never-ending cycle of giving and gratitude. To recruit and retain talented donor relations professionals, we need leadership who live that message, and I do." Director: Jessica VeitchManager of Donor Recognition, Sinai Health Foundation "My first term as member of the ADRP Board has been one of learning. I have gained a deeper understanding of the Board’s mission to ensure the growth and sustainability of the Association in its mission to be recognized as the leading authority on donor engagement, and the steps it’s taking to get there. The inspiration I gain from every interaction and every initiative fuels my desire to help in any way possible. Now that I’ve had the opportunity to “get my toes wet,” I would be honoured to continue the work that I feel I’m only just beginning. Whether supporting the Sponsorship Task Force to help develop a plan to strengthen and grow the relationships with our corporate Partners, (thereby creating a more sustainable revenue stream for the Association), or participation with the board in the strategic development of new and future initiatives, I feel like I’m just getting started. A key area of interest for me is ADRP’s continued work on diversification of the membership, (by years of experience, by sector and by region), and identification of the needs of these groups. As part of that exercise, I’d like to see ADRP as an Association dig deeper to not only promote ADRP to our Canadian members, but to increase ADRP’s presence in the Canadian market, and I would like to have the opportunity to help guide these conversations. Some of my favourite things about ADRP and the Board are the range of experiences and personalities around the table, and the spirit of collaboration and willingness to roll up our sleeves to get things done. The determination of ADRP and its Board to steward the profession of Donor Relations into the future is exciting, and I do hope I am given the opportunity to continue to be a part of this wonderful group."
