About the Webinar

Environmental nonprofits and conservation organizations are bursting at the seams with compelling, diverse stories of resilient communities, inspiring landscapes and innovative work—and we can use those stories to deepen and diversify our donor engagement and fundraising efforts. But it’s critical to consider the messages some narratives send and the ways we source and share them. In this webinar, you’ll explore the importance of stories and storytelling; the differences between stories and messaging; and how inclusive storytelling can influence more equitable conservation.

Learning Objectives

  1. The importance of stories and storytelling in connecting with donors emotionally
  2. The differences between stories and messaging and how the latter can be a vehicle for the former
  3. How more expansive, inclusive storytelling can influence more equitable conservation.

About the Presenter

Bronwen Butler, Senior Strategist, Storytelling, The Nature Conservancy

Bronwen Butler is audience-focused, strategy-minded and food-motivated. A deeply curious communications professional and self-confessed word nerd, she’s currently a senior donor communications officer at The Nature Conservancy, creating strategic, donor-facing materials for new and existing high net-worth donors. She’s also developing an exciting body of work focused on storytelling as a means to diversify and deepen donor engagement; her two-day Telling Better Stories, Telling Stories Better workshop is designed to facilitate conversation, collaboration, and continuous learning around better, more inclusive storytelling. Bronwen has put fingers to keyboard—and actual pen to literal paper—for more than 20 years; a successful speechwriter, ghostwriter, and long-term freelancer, she holds a BA in English from UT San Antonio and an MS in journalism from Ohio University. She’s based in a home office in Austin (with her Hubs and two middle-aged Chihuahuas) and has a deep affinity for alliteration, history, Korean dramas, and pie.
