Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada

Although Nevada is in a desert, its winters can be very cold and by late September its children will start to need sweatshirts, hats and warm socks. We also encourage the donation of reusable goods and because we’re in a desert where water is a precious commodity, people are often shocked to learn how much water is used to manufacture basic clothing items. A t-shirt takes 700 gallons, a pair of jeans is 800 gallons and a pair of leather sports shoes is 2.100 gallons. A typical Saturday outfit for most people represents 3,600 gallons of water usage.  Donating such items for reuse is not only beneficial to kids and their families, but also our agency and the entire community. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada can use any sizes of reusable items.

Our goal? 100% participation by conference attendees. So don’t forget to pack an extra pair of warm socks, hats, or t-shirts in your suitcase or carry-on to bring to the conference. Although appreciated, cash will not be accepted.

Preferred items for donations are as follows:

  • Socks
  • Sweatshirts
  • Hats
  • T-shirts
  • Jeans
  • Leather sports shoes

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada will be accepting donations from Monday, September 25th – Thursday, September 28th at Café Connections in Miranda 1 – 3.

It’s not just a donation. It’s an investment in a child’s future.
