In Service: The Column of the ADRP President
Michal Shaw AVP of Donor Relations Oklahoma State University Foundation
Current events related to COVID-19 have had a global impact and touched every international member of ADRP. I was on a call earlier this week with a volunteer facing furlough, and another member struggling to manage both her full-time job and homeschooling. Personally, I am up to my eyeballs in COVID communications for multiple constituency groups while homeschooling three kiddos, one with special needs who requires one-to-one instruction. It seems what we all need most right now are grace and hope. Grace for ourselves and each other and hope for a brighter tomorrow. And when I get to participate in volunteer calls like I did this week, I am incredibly hopeful.
Video from ADRP Members in Response to COVID-19
Recently, some ADRP members got together for a follow-up chat to share how they are creatively pivoting their donor cultivation and stewardship events during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We hope you’ll take this time to kick back for 30 minutes, put your feet up, and find comfort in members of your ADRP family, who are in this with you. Keep up the good work, ADRP peeps. You are each making a difference…every single day.
A Journey of Discovery
Kelly Batstone Chair, ADRP Volunteer and Member Experience Committee Director, Donor Relations and Stewardship Initiatives Arcadia University
Volunteering has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child, I went door to door to collect money for UNICEF through their Trick or Treat Campaign. In high school, I served on my graduation planning committee. In college, I gave my time and talent to the student newspaper and served on various student government and university committees. But it wasn’t until I left college and entered the workforce that volunteering truly became a way for me to fuel my passions and eventually find my career in the world of donor relations.
COVID-19 Resources for Donor Relations Professionals
In light of current events, the ADRP Board of Directors, members, and office staff have curated a handful of helpful resources for donor relations professionals available on the ADRP website. This page includes links to videos and relevant sites to help guide you and your organization during this time.
ADRP Regional Events - Postponed
Both the Southeast Donor Relations Conference and the Tenth Annual NYC Regional Conference have been postponed due to health and safety concerns. SEDRC will now be held on November 12, 2020. A new date for the NYC Regional Conference is yet to be determined.
Webinars to Motivate You and Your Colleagues
Our members and supporters remain top of mind during this time, and with so many events being canceled and rescheduled, we wanted to offer everyone the opportunity to continue their education and access valuable resources. With our upcoming webinars, we encourage attendees to share the post-webinar recording and materials with their colleagues.

Do you communicate directly with aid recipients to collect materials for narrative reporting? If the answer is yes, then this is the session for you. Narrative reporting relies on content directly from recipients, but how do you produce high-quality content that will inspire donors when you’re relying on recipients to create that content? Whether you are just starting out working with students or have been doing it for years we all share the same joys and challenges in carrying out this type of reporting. In this session, we will outline our scalable process for communicating with students, collecting and organizing responses, and producing reports. We will also discuss how we educate students about the role of philanthropy in their education and guide them through the process of sharing their stories with donors, both in writing and through personalized videos. This session will provide an interactive element where you will be given a chance to start developing your own communication plan with students.

Write for The Hub: We Want to Hear from You!
The Hub is seeking article proposals for new monthly issues!
Do you have a success story you would like to share? How did you handle a particular problem or project that seemed insurmountable? Have you discovered effective tactics that help gain a seat at the table? What are your thoughts on best practices or new, emerging ideas that take a donor relations/stewardship program to the next level?
We want to encourage our members—new and experienced—to share their insights, best practices, and what works (or doesn’t work!) when planning their shop’s programming and responsibilities.
We welcome all submissions related to donor relations and stewardship, but we especially encourage ADRP members to step forward and share their expertise and experiences in the profession.
The submission form is available any time you have an article proposal to submit. We have included the webinar topics for each month, in case you would like to tie your article to a specific webinar topic.
Please submit your article proposal today! We can’t wait to hear what you have to say!
