Advocacy for You, Your Team, Your Program, Your Institution, and Our Profession
Session 2C

Wednesday, October 3 | 11:30–12:30 PM

Presented by:
Nancy Lubich McKinney and Michal Shaw

Session Description:

Being able to advocate effectively for teams, programs, and institutions is a key skill for managers and leaders. Those wanting to be seen as industry experts also need to be able to advocate for our profession, and, of course, advocating for yourself is crucial for advancement and job satisfaction. Michal Shaw of the Oklahoma State University Foundation and Nancy McKinney of the University of California, Berkeley will share their experiences with all forms of advocacy during times of both expanding and contracting budgets. They will provide insights into what it means to advocate, when it’s appropriate to do so, how data and anecdotes can support your efforts, and what to do when advocacy doesn't work. Anyone interested in becoming a stronger advocate for themselves or their team, creating a healthy culture, and generating great results are invited to join us for an engaging conversation where we will navigate through lessons learned and current examples.
