For many colleges and universities stewardship of scholarship funds is a major challenge. There are often multiple offices involved in administering scholarships including Admissions, Financial Aid, Advancement, Finance and even individual Colleges and Departments, each with different or even conflicting objectives. The varying criteria associated with each fund, combined with a variety of application processes and deadline dates makes it difficult to monitor awarding activities and provide timely feedback to donors. During this presentation we will examine some of the challenges that make administration of scholarships so difficult and provide best practice suggestions for improving the interdepartmental relations, systems and processes associated with scholarship awarding.
