Whether you run a stewardship program in a large, complex organization or a small nonprofit, Fiona Newton and DJ Hampton will help you re-energize your major donor stewardship strategy by sharing best practices in developing individual stewardship plans from the major donor relations programs at Johns Hopkins University and United Way Worldwide. Hear two different perspectives on donor stewardship and engagement, including how to think from the donor's perspective, create and resource individual stewardship plans that actively involve your donors according to their interests, and that help donors to make an impact through your organization. This interactive session will present new ideas for engaging and stewarding your top donors.

Fiona Newton

Fiona Newton is Director of Donor and Volunteer Engagement for Johns Hopkins University where she is responsible for improving the engagement of some 1800 leadership volunteers and ensuring high quality, effective stewardship of top donors. Fiona's passion for aligning the talents and interests of staff, volunteers and donors to create real impact for an organization began early in her career as Head of Regional Appeals for children's charity, NSPCC, in the UK. Since then she has led fundraising at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Fiona has a masters in management from Ashridge Business School.


DJ Hampton II

David "D.J." Hampton II is Director of Major, Planned and Principal Giving for United Way Worldwide. Graduating from Alfred University in 2002 with his masters in non-profit administration, DJ served as a United Way of America Community Fellow assigned to Birmingham in 2004. From 2005 to April 2009, as Vice President, Gift Planning, at United Way of Central Alabama, he grew its Tocqueville Legacy Circle to over 65 members - the largest in the system. Joining United Way Worldwide in 2009, DJ now leads a team focused on support for Leadership and Tocqueville programs ($1.2 Billion in annual support) while integrating major and planned giving across the United Way system. DJ is currently enrolled as a JD candidate at University of the District of Columbia.
